"Snowville to Gull Island...

come in Gull Island..."

Dave works with a really fun bunch of guys in the science department.  I call them science geeks.  They are about the equivalent of computer nerds.  And, man, do they know how to have fun...in a weird way.  The story of how Gull Island came to be is this:

One of the guys in the department took his family on a surprise trip telling his kids that they were going to Gull Island to monitor seagulls and collect seagull poop for sampling (only a science teacher could get away with this).  His kids weren't too thrilled, but didn't have a choice.  They got on a late flight and later checked into their hotel, but were too tired to notice where they really were.  In the morning these kids looked out the window and realized they were at Disneyland!  So Gull Island became the code name for Disneyland.

Every day one of the other teachers would text Dave "Snowville to Gull Island" updating him on the weather in Snohomish and school cancellations.  It was like a radio conversation.  All week long, day after day, school was cancelled meaning that our kids weren't missing any school after all and that Dave was going to get back all of his vacation days.  I don't think we could have planned the timing of this vacation any better if we tried.
